Dear Millwallians,

The mouth-wateringly long-anticipated return of the end of season dinner is creeping up on us faster than a last minute Italian win.  This year it’s being organised by Leigh Dargan, who in addition to being a grand slam winning former Irish international is also a much tried and tested event organiser.

This year’s dinner will take place on the fascinating HMS Belfast (situated on the Thames) on Saturday 18th June where we will, eat, drink and merrily give out the seasons rugby awards in celebration of a much needed season of rugby and good times together.  

We are kicking off the sales with an early bird offer of £80 (members) and £90 (non-members) tickets, the offer runs out on 2nd May.  

The ticket will get you entry to and a tour of the HMS Belfast, prosecco reception on arrival, and a 3 course meal – dessert spoons optional.

Weekend Updates

Millwall 1s 0 - Billericay 73

It was a very different team that fronted up against a very different opposition from the previous weekend.  The first try was a bit of a fumbled “did we ground or not” business – it didn’t really make a huge difference to the outcome with Billericay’s stronger scrum setting the stage for their runners to take advantage of a disorganised Millwall defence.  There were the occasional decent tackle from Millwall as well as the odd uplifting moments of play here there to show some Millwall spirit.  It may not have been our day but Billericay were gracious in victory and again we need to thank Barking for the generous use of their facilities.

Millwall 22 – Maldon 29

No-one who has been following the 1st team really expected much out of this semi-final fixture against a team that have been consistently strong all season.  How wrong we were, with a Millwall try in the opening minutes of the game.  Going into the second half 5-24 looked like the beginning was the best of it - Maldon had shored up plenty of territory with some excellent position kicking and converted that into points.  However, Millwall came explosively out of the blocks after half time,  and when we reached 22-24 the game was definitely within our grasp.  A controversial try disallowed for an alleged knock on probably decided the game for us as Maldon finished off with a try with roughly 5 minutes to go. 

There were a lot of individual performances to commend in this game but as a team, the 1s gave it everything, we might not have made the final but there’s only pride in the way we went out.

Haringey 81 – Millwall Venus 10

A injury strewn game made more difficult by the fact Haringey went uncontested.  This flattered their speed which was their strength rather us being able to use our power in the scrums.
