Chairman's Update (Nov 2019)

Dear Fellow Millwallians,

November has already been a busy month for the Club, starting out with a packed clubhouse for the World Cup Final (the less said about the result, the better). Those of you in attendance that day would have noticed the fetching red, black and white blazers worn by some of the more longstanding Club members. If you are interested in adding this garment to your wardrobe, please click here to find out how.

Turning to matters on the pitch, the Men’s First XV have picked up back to back wins against Canvey Island and Old Brentwoods, giving hopes of promotion from Essex 1 a huge boost. Maldon are the opposition this Saturday on Millwall Park. The Venus have experienced defeat in two very tough Women’s National Challenge 1 South East games against Barnes and London Welsh, and they have an away fixture away to Reading this Sunday. The Youth section hosted Southwark Tigers and Bexley last Sunday, with over 70 kids taking part.

A special word of thanks to those who gave their time as Poppy Appeal volunteers for the Club this year. Although we don’t find out the exact figures our volunteers raise for the Royal British Legion, I can tell you that the tins handed in by our volunteers from the Youth section were the heaviest by some distance! Remembrance Sunday coincided with Youth training, and the 2 minute silence at 11am was impeccably observed. The parents, coaches and players also managed to raise a further £112 for the Poppy Appeal.

For those of you already missing international rugby, a reminder that tomorrow (Friday 22 November) is the deadline for applying for Six Nations 2020 tickets through the club – see the website for full details.

With Christmas almost in sight, it’s time to talk about what’s going on at he club in the holiday season.

Merry Millwall Christmas Collection 2019
This year we are supporting Amy’s Space - a voluntary community group based in East London that provides food, clothing, toiletries, sleeping bags and so much more to the homeless, lost and lonely in the communities around us. From now until Sunday 15 December, we encourage you to please bring any and all donations down to the Clubhouse on a Wednesday evening or match day. A full list of much needed and recommended items can be found on our website by clicking here, or alternatively, you can give online using the Amy’s Space Amazon Wish List.

If you are feeling extra festive and choose to give a small gift, please wrap it and add a card and maybe a short message of support and encouragement. It isn’t difficult to make someone feel that they count! Have any questions or want to know more about how you can get involved - please email Kate Roy on communications@millwallrugby.com

Millwall XXXmas Party
Forget the obligatory family gatherings, or the boring office do in the Boardroom – the Millwall XXXmas Party is THE Christmas Party of the Festive Season!!!! Taking place in the clubhouse on Saturday 14 December between 18:00 and 23:00 there will be Festive Drinks, Jengaaaaaaa, Gaucho, Beer Pong...and so much more! All members and their guests are welcome. Best Dressed Prizes on offer so dress up or dress down – just make sure you’re festively attired...

Christmas Touch Rugby Tournament
This year our playing and youth coaching ranks have been bolstered by a French contingent studying at AMOS Sport Business School, who will be hosting a Christmas-themed Touch Rugby Tournament on Millwall Park from 1pm on Sunday 15th December. Shake off the hangover from the night before and join us for the last Sunday Funday down the Club.

A link for registration will be shared on our socials soon enough but for now, start rallying some teammates - 10 players max, mixed gender and dress up very highly encouraged! Entry is only £5 per player, and all donations and benefits will go to Charity Partners - Bayswater Foundation and Friends Supporting Millwall RFC. Fundraising has already begun and you can learn more about the AMOS London Student Fundraising team and their objectives by clicking here.

Let's go to work,

Millwall RFC Blazers - Nov 2019

To celebrate our 25th Season, we will be arranging club blazers for anyone interested.

Please note, if you order a blazer you will be required to visit the tailor’s shop in Bethnal Green for measurements and following that appointment, blazers should be ready to collect 6 - 8 weeks later.

Blazers are £120 each and money must be paid up front.

Please email Paul Fisher on clubhouse@millwallrugby.com if you are interested in purchasing one.

We will then update you on the payment process, as well as arrange a date for a group visit to get measured up.
